Create a playable 3D kart racing game in the browser, built entirely from voxels — a love letter to classic Mario Kart where every kart, character, track surface, and prop is assembled from chunky cubes, rendered as a bright, saturated living diorama rather than flat blocks. The visitor should land on the title screen, feel the pull of the countdown, and be mid-drift before they realize how much is going on under the hood.
The core loop: pick a racer, sit through a snappy countdown (3… 2… 1… GO!), and race several laps against AI opponents around a closed circuit — drifting through corners to charge mini-turbos, grabbing item boxes, dodging hazards, collecting coins, and fighting for position all the way to the checkered flag and the results podium.
Recreate the genre's handling feel faithfully; this is the heart of a kart clone. Karts accelerate, brake, and carry weight — they slide outward on hard turns, hop before committing to a drift, and hold a drift that tightens the racing line while spark colors climb through boost tiers (blue, then orange, then a top tier) that fire the moment the drift releases. Item boxes respawn on a timer and yield a real arsenal: a straight-line shell to throw forward, a homing shell that hunts the kart ahead, a droppable trap that spins out whoever hits it, a burst speed item, and a grid-wide shock that shrinks every rival; racers far behind should draw stronger items than the leader. Boost pads, a rocket start from a perfectly timed launch, spin-outs with brief recovery invulnerability, and coins that nudge top speed upward all belong in the mix. Live position standings, lap counting with checkpoints that shortcut-proof progress, a final-lap signal, and a finish with placements and timings complete the race skeleton.
Give the race real opponents: AI karts that follow sensible racing lines, drift corners, fire and dodge items, make occasional mistakes, and rubber-band just enough to keep every race tense without feeling unfair. The camera is part of the feel — it should ride behind the kart, widen its field of view as speed builds, kick on boosts, and lean toward the inside of hard turns.
The voxel art direction carries the identity. Build an original roster of voxel racers with distinct silhouettes, palettes, and personalities — a plucky mustachioed hero type, a regal one, a dino-ish sidekick, a hulking brute, and friends — with original names and stat trade-offs (speed, acceleration, handling, weight) that actually change how each kart drives. The track itself is a voxel world: patterned asphalt, a checkered start line, red-and-white striped curbs, off-road grass and dirt that slow karts down, walls, ramps and elevation changes, tunnels, water hazards, trees, grandstands with blocky crowds, and biome shifts that give the circuit a sense of place. Sell the motion with voxel drift sparks, exhaust puffs, dirt and hit particles, item box shimmer, spinning coins, and a confetti finish.
Carry the experience through its full state flow, not just the race: a title screen, racer select, the countdown, the race with a proper HUD (position, lap, item slot, minimap, coin count, speedometer), pause, a results screen worth reaching, and the small states in between — wrong-way warnings, respawn for karts that fall off or get stuck, hit reactions, and a finish-line celebration. Keyboard controls (steering, accelerate/brake, hop/drift, use item) plus touch controls so a phone can race too.
Do not take shortcuts or settle for a cookie-cutter racing demo or a recognizable shell. Faithfully recreate the look, feel, behavior, states, transitions, edge cases, and smallest meaningful interactions of the kart-racing genre. This skill imposes no token budget limit, so pursue the full depth of the experience and keep refining handling physics, item logic, AI behavior, and presentation until the game plays great, reads instantly, and feels authored rather than assembled.
